Kerens visits Cross Roads Nov. 3 in a battle of the Bobcats, leaving with a big win.

CROSS ROADS–The Kerens Bobcats tuned up for the playoffs by adding another regular-season win Nov. 3 over rival Cross Roads to carry a 6-4 record into the postseason, winning 63-32.
Kerens finished with a 4-2 record in District 7-2A, winning their last three games. The Bobcats were scheduled to begin postseason play with a Nov. 9 Bi-district tilt against Marlin at Midway ISD’s Panther Stadium in Waco.
After falling behind 8-0 on a Cross Roads safety and touchdown followed by a failed 2-point conversion, Kerens’ Mykel Lattimore hauled in a 15-yard touchdown pass from Lane Lynch (Kerens’ two-point conversion also failed) to cut the Cross Roads lead to 8-6.
In the second quarter, Cross Roads went up 14-6. Kerens responded with two more Lattimore touchdowns (the first on a 2-yard run, with Muziq Gunnell running for a 2-point conversion; the second on a 34-yard touchdown pass from Lynch) to seize a 21-14 lead.
A Cross Roads touchdown got them within 21-20 (the 2-point conversion was unsuccessful), then Gunnell extended the Kerens lead to 28-20 before halftime with a 64-yard touchdown run.
Lattimore returned the second-half kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown, then Gunnell ran 9 yards for his second touchdown, all of which put Kerens in front 42-20 in the third quarter.
Cross Roads made it 42-26 with a 54-yard touchdown run (the 2-point conversion failed). The teams next traded touchdowns, first with Kerens’ 17-yard run by Gunnell (49-26, Kerens), then Cross Roads scored on a 42-yard pass (the 2-pointer was halted) to get within 49-32.
Kerens scored the last two touchdowns of the game, the first on a third-quarter 7-yard D’Mari Payne run, the second on a 48-yard Lynch-to-Lattimore pass.
