Melba Jean Burt Steele was born Oct. 27, 1940 in Texarkana but grew up in Fort Worth. She passed away May 18, 2024. 
She went through LVN training at St. Joseph’s Hospital and went on to receive her RN at Arlington. She worked as a nurse mostly in Dallas for 45 years  including 25 years as an OR Nurse for Dr. Frits Barton.
She and her husband of over 50 years, John,  lived in Tool for 20 years. She attended Cedar Creek Lake United Methodist Church. 
Melba was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, a brother and sister.

Log Cabin City Council hears 2023 audit

LOG CABIN–Log Cabin City Council voted June 27 to accept the audit of the city’s 2023 finances, which the auditor described as “cash positive” as of Sept. 30 that year.
David Godwin, a Tyler-based certified public accountant who gave Log Cabin an unmodified opinion (“the best you can have,” he said), stated Log Cabin had a $396,000 unrestricted cash balance at that point. “You guys are doing well,” he remarked.
