Mabank, Kemp All Star teams compete for titles

KAUFMAN-National Championship Sports held the 2023 East Texas Rec World Series at the Kaufman Sports Complex June 16-18 with the Mabank 6U and 8U All Stars, Mabank Panthers 14U and Kemp Yellowjackets 6U and 8U All Stars competing for titles.
The event began with a team skills contest and pin trading Friday night and on Saturday was pool play. Brackets for the World Series Championship started Sunday morning, with local teams facing off against 14 other all-star teams.
Each team played two pool play games before entering a single elimination bracket based on pool play seeding.
Mabank 6U All Stars began pool play at 10 a.m. June 17 against the Blackland All Stars, falling 5-17. The second game was against Chaos at 11:15 a.m., with Mabank faring a bit better but unable to secure a victory. The game ended with a score of 7-11 in favor of Chaos. 
Kemp 6U played its first pool play game at 1:45 p.m. against Chaos, falling 9-4. The next game was played at 3 p.m. against the Dallas Dodgers who defeated Kemp 11-5.
Kemp 8U Yellowjacket All Stars began at 9 a.m. Saturday in a game against Blackland, winning the game 9-3. Their next game was at 10:20 against the ETX Rangers, and Kemp took the game 16-8. Mabank 8U All Stars were also undefeated in pool play June 17, defeating ETX Rangers 16-8 at 1 p.m. and Royse City Wolfpack 15-2.
Mabank 14U had a tough time in pool play, going into the brackets on Sunday with two losses under their belts, one to Blackland Allstars with a score of 9-5 and one to the Edgewood Cardinals who defeated Mabank 17-1.
In bracket play, Kemp 6U saw mixed results. In the first game against Mabank June 18, the Yellowjackets won 10-9, knocking Mabank out of the bracket, but in the second game against Dallas Dodgers, Kemp fell 5-3. 
Mabank 8U played their first bracket game against Blackland at 11:40 a.m. on Sunday, defeating Blackland 10-8. Kemp 8U played Tyler West at 1 p.m., falling 5-13. Mabank played its second game also against Tyler West and was also defeated with a score of 7-17.
Mabank 14U played its bracket game against Whitehouse Sunday morning at 9 a.m. Though the team fought hard, Whitehouse took the win 6-5.
