ABILENE–Boys’ powerlifters from Mabank, Eustace and Kemp high schools took part in the Texas High School Powerlifting Association State meet held late March in Abilene, from which a Eustace High School athlete took home a bronze medal.
David French of Eustace High School won third place in the 308-pound weight class of Division 3. French’s lifts totaled 1,700 pounds, which featured a 660-pound squat, a 440-pound bench press and a 600-pound deadlift.
For Mabank, Raul Carrasco finished in fourth place in Division 2’s 308-pound weight class with a total lift of 1,790 pounds. Broken down, Carrasco lifted 715 pounds in the squat, bench-pressed 485 pounds and deadlifted 590 pounds. His teammate, Jose Amador, placed fifth in Division 2’s 114-pound weight class with a total lift of 875 pounds. Amador tallied 330 pounds in the squat, bench-pressed 165 pounds and deadlifted 380 pounds.
Kemp’s Aaron Quezada and Enrique Apresa also competed at the State meet in Abilene as part of Division 3. Quezada tallied a total lift of 1,365 pounds in the 181-pound weight class, which included a 575-pound squat, a 345 pound bench press and a 445-pound deadlift. Apresa had a total lift of 1,485 pounds in the 242-pound weight class, which breaks down to 595 pounds in the squat, 390 pounds bench-pressed and 500 pounds deadlifted.
