KERENS–The Kerens Lady ‘Cats volleyball team knocked off the Itasca Lady Wampus Cats in a swift and spirited Sept. 23 straight-set, 3-0 sweep.
Kerens went up 16-5 in the first set on an Elaysia Morgan kill and then 18-5 with a Tiani Hall ace. Two more Morgan kills built the first-set lead to 22-7, Kerens. Itasca put two consecutive serves into the net to give the Lady ‘Cats a 25-7 first-set win.
The second set started with Kerens kills from Morgan and Olivia Holt, then a Rylee Spivey kill increased the Kerens lead to 14-5. A barrage of Kerens kills from Holt and Morgan, followed by a double hit on Itasca, had the Lady ‘Cats leading the second set, 20-9. A Morgan block point, a Hall ace and another Itasca serve into the net gave Kerens a 25-10 second-set victory.
Kerens took a 5-1 third-set lead with Hall serving and went up 12-4 with a Spivey ace. Morgan continued to lead her team with three more Kerens kills that built a 23-6 third-set Lady ‘Cat advantage. A Holt ace ended the third set and match at 25-6.
Kerens is scheduled to begin district play Oct. 8 in Frankston.
