Kerens wins Bi-district softball title over Big Sandy

KERENS–The Kerens Lady ‘Cats outscored Big Sandy by 20-1 over two games April 26-27 to sweep the best-of-three Bi-district championship series and advance to the Area round.
Kerens next faces Rivercrest in Area action, in another best-of-three series. The first game was scheduled May 6, with games two and three (if necessary) set for May 7. The games are hosted at Tyler Legacy High School.
Kerens won the first game of the Bi-district series, 9-0, played April 26 at Grand Saline. The Lady ‘Cats were led at the plate by Leah Greene, who drove in four runs with two hits, including a double. McKenzie Bancroft (who hit a single and double), Ella Engel, Madison Brumit and Rylee Spivey (who also struck out 13 Big Sandy batters) added an RBI apiece. Olivia Holt also had a single and double.
Kerens then closed out the series at Emory Rains High School April 27 with an 11-1 run-rule victory, which was fueled by a six-run second inning. Bancroft drove in three runs and Greene had two RBIs. Holt hit a double and triple and drove in a run. Kenadee Lynch had a single and double along with an RBI, with more doubles contributed by Brumit (who also hit a single) and Abbigail Holt. Emma Combs, Raygan Brooks and Spivey each added a single. Spivey had eight strikeouts on the mound.
