Mabank boys’ golf team wins third in state for Class 4A

May 6, Mabank High School’s boys’ golf team wins third place in Texas Class 4A at the UIL State Golf Championship at Legends Golf Course in Kingsland (west of Austin) after two days of play, including golfers Lawson Shackelford, Trace Donnell, Jacob Steele, Cameron Van Horn, Gunnar McGilvra and their coach, Jeff Sutton.
KINGSLAND–After entering the final day of play in fifth place at the Class 4A UIL State Golf Championship near Austin, the Mabank High School boys’ golf team turned it up a notch to win third place in the state at the conclusion of the two-day tournament held May 5-6 near Austin.
Mabank’s boys’ golf team shot a total of 319 on the first day, then shot a 305 on the final day. That overall total score of 624 was behind first-place Bridgeport and second-place Andrews.
Individually, Lawson Shackelford of Mabank had a Day 1 score of 77 and a Day 2 score of 75 to shoot a total score of 152. Gunnar McGilvra shot a 77 on the first day followed by a second-day score of 76 to total 153. Cameron Van Horn totaled 156 over the two-day tournament, shooting an 82 in the first round and 74 on the second day. Jacob Steele turned in an 83 on Day 1 followed by an 80 on Day 2 to total 163. Trace Donnell had an 88 on the first day followed by a Day 2 score of 88 to total 174.
