Cross Roads, Kerens players seize superlatives

KERENS/CROSS ROADS–Lady Bobcats from Kerens and Cross Roads high schools have been honored for their individual contributions toward their teams’ success with the release of the 20-2A All-District softball list in late May, after all teams completed postseason play.
Kerens, which won its third consecutive Bi-District championship this past postseason by pouncing Union Grove, 16-6, had junior Olivia Holt named as District Co-Defensive Player of the Year.
Cross Roads went 10-3 in district play and swept Overton (16-4, 16-6) in a best-of-three series to win the Bi-District title. Alanah Logan won Offensive Player of the Year while Brook Locke was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year. Ashlynn Cook is Catcher of the Year.
For Cross Roads, first-team All-District players are infielders Makayla Hughes and Alli Reynolds, along with outfielder Keelee Glover. Second-teamers include infielders Jadynn Cook and Gracie Collins, with outfielder Alyssa Throneberry rounding out the second-team Cross Roads list.
Kerens first-team All-District selections include sophomore Rylee Spivey, senior Madison Brumit, senior Emma Combs, junior Ella Engel, sophomore Brooke Sikes, sophomore Blair Blue and senior Raygan Brooks. Second-team Kerens All-District selections feature freshman Kayla Gonzales and sophomore Sarah Massey.
Kerens players named to the honorable mention All-District list for 20-2A are junior Kynzee Elmore along with freshmen Jayden Brumit and Jaidin Rickard. Kerens also released its list of players who were named Academic All-District: Engel, Elmore, Holt, Spivey, Blue, Sikes, Massey, Gonzales, Madison Brumit, Jayden Brumit, Sophie Fugate, Rickard, Brooks and Combs.
