MABANK–The Mabank Panther Band has already cranked into gear for the 2022-23 school year.
The band’s UIL competition show ‘Sunny Days’ is a musical depiction of the sun’s trajectory within a day. Selections include ‘You Are My Sunshine,’ ‘Here Comes the Sun,’ ‘Theme from Out of Africa,’ Post Malone’s ‘Sunflower’ from Spider-Man, Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto and ‘Sunny’ Reprise.
The band has some new staff members this year. Director of Bands Joel Weisberg, Jr. High Director Whitney Rutledge, Asst. Jr. High Director Laura Foote, Intermediate School Band Director Joel Ramirez and Color Guard Director Tlen Mason. Mr. Brooks Tarkington remains the Asst. High School Band Director/Director of Percussion.
The Student Leadership team just finished a three-day leadership workshop. The Color Guard and Percussion camps are going on all week and the full Panther band rehearsals start Aug. 1 (8 a.m.-4 p.m. daily).
“If the energy and positivity from our Student Leadership camp will continue to move forward, we will be in store for an outstanding year, Weisberg says. “I have been aware of the successes of the Mabank band for years and am very excited about the possibilities with our great students. I am confident that our Student Leadership Team with Drum Majors Maya Vega, Naomi Rozanek and Braden Lennard will lead/guide our students to an epic Fall semester!”
Goals of the summer program include having fun, meeting new people, learning the marching fundamentals, playing lots of music and getting our Part I/Part II on the football field. The Mabank band is primed and ready to support the Panthers on Friday nights.
