SALADO-The Malakoff Tigers won a thrilling double overtime contest over the Salado Eagles Sept. 9 on the road.
After a low-scoring first half, the Tigers and Eagles battled it out down the stretch before capturing victory in, 29-27, in double overtime.
The Eagles opened the scoring on a five-yard touchdown pass to Luke Law to take a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.
Law added his second touchdown of the game on an 18-yard reception as the Eagles shut out the Tigers 14-0 in the first three quarters.
Corey Phillips got the Tigers on the board with a 15-yard touchdown reception from Mike Jones to cut the deficit to 14-7.
The Tigers tied the game in the fourth quarter on a one-yard touchdown run by Bubba Hicks as the two teams headed into overtime tied 14-14.
Law added his third touchdown of the game to open the scoring in the first overtime on a seven-yard run to take a 21-14 lead.
Hicks added his second touchdown of the game for the Tigers on a 13-yard run to tie the game after a successful extra point attempt by Juan Gonzalez.
The Tigers took the lead in the second overtime on as Jones connected with Austin Massingill on a 35-yard touchdown pass to take a 29-21 lead after a successful two-point conversion.
The Eagles scored late on a 25-yard touchdown pass but failed to convert the two-point conversion as the Tigers sealed the win.
The win moves Malakoff to 2-1 overall on the season. The Tigers take on the Gladewater Bears (1-2) next at home Sept. 16.
