Cross Roads band takes seventh place

The State OPS adjudication took place July 21 and Cross Roads ISD Band Directors Alex Montgomery and Jonathan Gonzalez are unbelievably ecstatic to announce that Cross Roads High School Band got seventh place for their performance of Bazaar. “There were some high-level recordings from consistently successful programs and we were honored to even be included on this list,” Gonzalez shared. “Words can’t express how proud we are of our students and the work they did to make our first OPS run a historic one!”

‘Sunny Days’ ahead for Mabank Panther band

MABANK–The Mabank Panther Band has already cranked into gear for the 2022-23 school year. 
The band’s UIL competition show ‘Sunny Days’ is a musical depiction of the sun’s trajectory within a day. Selections include ‘You Are My Sunshine,’ ‘Here Comes the Sun,’ ‘Theme from Out of Africa,’ Post Malone’s ‘Sunflower’ from Spider-Man, Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto and ‘Sunny’ Reprise.

Carlee Cline receives Mike Hutchison Scholarship

On behalf of McAfee Insurance Agency, Inc., and the Michael Hutchison family, we are pleased to announce the recipient of the annual Mike Hutchison Scholarship to Carlee Cline. This scholarship is in memory of a dear friend and co-worker, “Hutch”, and we are honored to have Carlee receive it. Carlee is an accomplished softball player and has participated in playing for the Mabank varsity softball team, who did very well this year, as well as teaching the sport voluntarily to others, including the Special Olympic and Angel League.

The First United Methodist Church of Mabank recognizes their 2022 scholarship winners at a ceremony June 12. Scholarship winners were Eustace High School senior Caleb Gonzales (from left), Mabank High School senior Austin Kilgore (middle) and Kemp High School senior Veronica Morales as they are honored alongside Pastor Dan Gurley (second from left) and Chairman of Cornerstone Scholarship Committee Scott Daniels (far right). Scholarship winners that are not pictured are Malakoff High School senior Allyson Holt and Mabank High School senior Hallie Collins.

Kemp Jr. Stingerettes show out at dance camp

The Kemp Junior High Jr. Stingerettes returned home from an outstanding showing at the Showtime International Dance Camp 2022. These young ladies did a wonderful job and were awarded for their hard work and dedication as follows:
• All Jr. Stingerettes received the Sparkle Award
• Several All-Star Awards & Kick Club nominations
• Officers Millie, Madysen and Autumn were nominated for Miss Showtime 
• Captain Millie won the Miss Showtime Award
• Highest Home Dance Award
• Division 1 rating on camp routine

Golfers tee off in 35th Annual Coaches Playday

MABANK–Firing a blistering 7-under 29 on the back nine, the team of Troy Scott (TVCC), Harold Jones (TVCC), Daniel Pierce (Cross Roads) and Brett Zamzow (Cross Roads) went on to win the 35th Annual Coaches Playday played at The Pinnacle Club June 14 in Mabank.
The winning team finished with a 10-under 62 to claim a one-stroke win. It was the third win for Scott, who also won in 2005 and 2015. It was the second win for Jones, Pierce and Zamzow. Jones had previously won in 2014 and both Pierce and Zamzow in 2020.
