Kerens ISD approves purchasing Chromebooks

KERENS—Kerens ISD (KISD) trustees voted April 22 to approve buying 150 Chromebook computers for students across all its campuses.
KISD Business Manager Kaitlyn Cotten said the price from Dell Technologies is $44,500. Related to that purchase, trustees approved a budget amendment reallocating $35,000 within the school district’s budget.

Kerens ISD approves buying five buses

KERENS—Kerens ISD (KISD) school board members voted March 25 to approve an agreement to purchase five new buses, one of which will be used by the district’s Special Education department.
KISD Director of Student Services and Operations Brad Atkeisson said four buses cost $135,000 apiece while the Special Education bus costs $133,500. Superintendent Martin Brumit explained to the board that the district plans to pay off a loan so that the district does not accrue any interest.

Kerens ISD conditionally approves tax deals, Navarro County Wind

KERENS–Kerens ISD trustees voted Dec. 12 to approve resolutions conditionally approving two proposed agreements to limit appraised property values related to certain school taxes for two separate wind and solar projects planned within the district.
Both agreements would limit such values as applied to school district maintenance and operations taxes for Navarro County Wind and Gaia Solar. The agreements fall under the Texas Economic Development Act, which is Chapter 313 of the state tax code and which is set to expire Dec. 31.

Kerens ISD approves solar project tax deal

KERENS–Kerens ISD trustees voted Nov. 28 to approve a tax agreement under the Texas Economic Development Act for Elm Flats Solar, a proposed solar facility that is planned within the district near Powell.
Kenny Berry voted no on the agreement while Matt Lynch abstained. The state law allowing such agreements, also known as Chapter 313, limits the appraised property value for school district maintenance and operations (M&O) taxes.
