Kerens ISD approves solar project payments

KERENS–Kerens ISD trustees voted April 25 to make payments to a financial advisor and law firm for their services to help navigate a tax value limitation agreement pertaining to the Goodalta Solar Project, which is planned to be built in the district.
Sara Leon & Associates (a law firm now known as Leon Alcala) received $37,500, as did Jigsaw School Finance Solutions. The $75,000 total of the two payments had been reconciled with a budget amendment approved earlier in the meeting.

Kerens wins Bi-district softball title over Big Sandy

KERENS–The Kerens Lady ‘Cats outscored Big Sandy by 20-1 over two games April 26-27 to sweep the best-of-three Bi-district championship series and advance to the Area round.
Kerens next faces Rivercrest in Area action, in another best-of-three series. The first game was scheduled May 6, with games two and three (if necessary) set for May 7. The games are hosted at Tyler Legacy High School.

Zoning change advances plans for Pier 334 Development

GUN BARREL CITY–At the April 26 meeting, residents of Gale Drive and Jeffery Circle came to speak during the public hearing to rezone lots 28 and 29 in the Lambs Retreat subdivision physically located at 102 Jeffery Circle. This rezone would change the two lots from Single Family Detached Residential District (R-4) to General Business District (B-2). Ten residents spoke against the action as well as the developer for the Pier 334 Development Steven Haynes of YNS Services.
