Cities, school and water boards set May 4 election date

CEDAR CREEK LAKE—The May 4 election will decide places for surrounding city, school and water district boards along with a bond election up for vote for Mabank ISD.  
In Gun Barrel City, three positions are up for election, incumbent Mayor Brian Crull is running unopposed, for place 2 (east) Rita Evans runs unopposed, and place 4 (west) incumbent Cindy Key runs against Jay Burson. Also on the Gun Barrel City Ballot, are 13 propositions in relation to the city charter and Proposition A for “the reauthorization of the local sales and use tax in the city of Gun Barrel City, Texas at the rate of one-fourth of one percent to continue providing revenue for maintenance and repair of municipal streets.”
The City of Mabank will hold an election for three council members. Incumbents John Chappell, Tyson Adams, and Derrick Harrill will seek reelection against candidates Ty Thompson and John Sullivan. 
The City of Log Cabin will have an election to vote for three council members with incumbents Aaron Scott and Larry Sutherland seeking reelection against opponents Lynn Hayes Amundsen, and Teena Linder. 
Seven Points will also hold an election for a mayor. Candidates, Charles Longacre, Keith Betts and Amber Edwards will compete for the position. 
The West Cedar Creek Municipal Utility District will also hold an election for director positions 2, 4 and 5. Incumbents David Lewis, Darrell Dean and Wanda Sanders are seeking reelection against opponents John Brasfield, Leslie Anderson, Shelly Hattan, Randal Ingle. 
Mabank, Kemp and Kerens Independent School Districts (ISD) will also be having an election to determine board positions. Running for Mabank ISD place 6 are candidates Laurie Fortenberry Garrett, Patricia T. Coleman and John Litchfield. Running for Mabank ISD place 7 are candidates, incumbent Bryan Miller and Brandon Parker. Mabank ISD will also conduct a $116 million bond election, that if approved will increase student capacity, improve academic learning environments, expand career and technical education (CTE) opportunities and prepare the district for future growth. 
The proposed projects in the proposal include a new elementary school, career and technical education (CTE) addition at Mabank High School, junior high school additions and improvements, districtwide renovations, upgrades and repairs, and land acquisition for future district facilities. 
Kemp ISD will be holding an election to elect board members for place 3 and 4. Incumbent Matt Gross is challenged by candidate Amanda Whitley for place 3 and incumbent Sharron Rodriguez Rankin is challenged by candidate Larry Dalrymple for place 4. 
Kerens ISD will also hold an election for the purpose of electing two council members. Incumbents Teresa Jennings and Anne Beckman are challenged by candidate Andrew Lewis. 
Early voting begins Monday April 22 and runs through Tuesday April 30. Election day will be Saturday May 4. 
The following early voting locations in Kaufman County will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, April 22 through Saturday, April 27 and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, April 28 and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, April 29 and Tuesday, April 30. 
• Crandall/Combine Community Center, located at 500 W. Lewis in Crandall. 
• Forney Sub Courthouse, located at 200 E. Main Street in Forney. 
• Kaufman County Library Main Location, located at 3790 S. Houston Street, in Kaufman. 
• Kemp Sub Courthouse, located at 103 N. Main Street in Kemp. 
• Mabank City Hall, located at 129 E. Market St., in Mabank. 
• Scurry-Rosser Admin Building, located at 10705 S. State Highway 34 in Scurry. 
• Terrell Sub Courthouse, located at 408 E. College Street in Terrell. 
The following early voting locations in Henderson County are:
• The Help Center, Legacy Center Building located at 813 N. Palestine Street in Athens
8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, April 22 through Saturday, April 27, and Noon to 6 p.m., Sunday April 28, and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday April 29 and Tuesday April 30. 
• Mabank City Hall located at 129 East Market Street in Mabank. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday April 22 through Saturday April 27 and Noon to 6 p.m., Sunday April 28 and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday April 29 and Tuesday April 30. 
• Gun Barrel City Hall located at 1716 West Main Street in Gun Barrel City. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday April 22 through Friday April 26 and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday April 29 and Tuesday April 30. 
• Seven Points City Hall located at 428 East Cedar Creek Parkway in Seven Points. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday April 22 through Friday April 26, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday April 29 and Tuesday April 30. 
• First Methodist Church, Heritage Hall located at 501 North Second Street in Chandler. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday April 22 through Friday April 26 and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday April 29 and Tuesday April 30.
