GUILTY: McEuen convicted of capital murder

KAUFMAN COUNTY–After a four-day trial at the Kaufman County Justice Center, Trevor McEuen was convicted Oct. 23 of capital murder for the killing of his neighbor Aaron Martinez.
McEuen was originally indicted for capital murder following the shooting death of Martinez in Forney back in 2023. In those two years, McEuen was re-arrested multiple times and skipped his initial trial date back in May of this year.
The shooting stemmed from a crash in May 2023 where prosecutors say McEuen fired 32 shots from a semi-automatic rifle, killing Martinez. Martinez was struck 32 times from the rifle, but McEuen’s legal team claimed self-defense in court last week.
The jury was handed the case just before noon Oct. 23. After deliberating for just four hours, they returned with a unanimous guilty verdict. McEuen had no reaction when the verdict was read aloud in the courtroom.
The prosecution was not seeking the death penalty in the case, so Judge Shelton Gibbs IV sentenced McEuen to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
“Justice was served in this case thanks to the tireless efforts of our investigators, the District Attorney’s Office and all the agencies that assisted throughout this investigation,” Kaufman County Sheriff Bryan Beavers stated. “Our thoughts remain with the Martinez family, and we hope this verdict brings them some measure of peace.”
