GUN BARREL CITY–During the Gun Barrel City council meeting July 26, council approved the demolition of nine unsafe structures within the city. One property owner was granted time to repair his structure on Westview Drive. The other nine structures were deemed unsafe and ordered to be demolished after a public hearing.
Council also interviewed two applicants for one position on the Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors. Applicants Jay Burson and Kate Weller both introduced themselves to council, with Weller receiving the appointment.
The Humane Society of Cedar Creek Lake spoke during the meeting, requesting an increase of $30,000 to their annual contract costs. The increase is cited as increasing medical costs, supply chain issues, loss of funding from Kaufman County and longer than normal stays per shelter animal. Gun Barrel City currently pays $1,600 per month which was increased from the previous rate of $1,250 per month. If the current increase is approved, the city will then pay $4,100 per month. Council voted to table its decision so they may meet with the shelter’s Certified Public Accountant and Board Member Theresa Cryer and discuss the shelter’s budget and costs. The city must provide an answer to HSCCL by the end of August.
In other business, council:
• Approved to cease services with Misty Culpepper CPA and approved a service agreement with YWRD, P.C.
• Approved the replatting of lots 29, 30 and 31 in the Tamarack Venture subdivision, belonging to David Westerfield, physically located at 454 S. Gun Barrel Lane, Gun Barrel City, into two lots Lot 29R and 31R.
• Approved an interlocal agreement with Texas A&M Engineering Extension Services for a strategic planning session for years 2023-26.
• Approved consent agenda.
