Trinidad beats Leverett’s Chapel then wins Bi-District

TRINIDAD–The Trinidad Lady Trojans beat the Leverett’s Chapel Lady Lions in straight sets Oct. 29 before a loud home crowd that helped propel them into the playoffs, where they won the first round Nov. 4.
With a spirited student section supporting their Lady Trojans, Trinidad quickly took a 3-1 first-set lead, capped off by an Addyson Wendt kill. The points continued with Ja’Mya Womack-Evans serving, running the score up to 5-1 in Trinidad’s favor until Leverett’s Chapel broke the Lady Trojans’ serve.
Leverett’s Chapel climbed back to within 7-4, then a Brooklyn Wendt kill made it 8-4, Trinidad. Trinidad gained a 13-6 advantage with a Brooklyn Wendt ace, leading to a Leverett’s Chapel timeout. After that, the Lady Lions were rejuvenated and got within 15-13 of Trinidad, forcing the Lady Trojans to stop play.
After returning to the court, Brooklyn Wendt picked up another kill for an 18-14 Trinidad lead, Alayla Shofner had a block point to make it 21-15, Lady Trojans, a Nilah Ayala ace had it 23-15 in favor of Trinidad, a Shofner kill extended the lead to 24-18 and a Lady Trojan ace ended the first set for Trinidad, 25-18.
During the second set, Trinidad got a quick start, with Allison Torres’ ace giving the Lady Trojans an 8-3 lead. Trinidad continued rolling to 12-6 with a Brooklyn Wendt ace, then at 15-6, Leverett’s Chapel decided to regroup on the bench. The beating continued as Trinidad led 17-7, after which the Lady Lions scored three-straight points to force a Lady Trojan timeout at 17-10.
Leverett’s Chapel continued their hot pace with five more unanswered points to reduce Trinidad’s winning margin to 17-15, when the Lady Trojans got back on the board to stop the run. Eventually, Trinidad won the second set 25-16.
Trinidad built a 7-4 third-set lead, which Leverett’s Chapel cut to 7-6. However, Trinidad took their lead to 10-6 on an Ayala kill, with three scattered points from Addyson Wendt over the following stretch making it 17-8. Later, a Leverett’s Chapel ace had the Lady Lions within 23-20, but after a Trinidad timeout, the Lady Trojans finished off their visitors, ending the set and the match with a Shofner kill.
