SEVEN POINTS—During the Nov. 14 regular city council meeting, the City of Seven Points discussed the possibility of a Community Development Block Grant. With a deadline of December, the city will have to work quickly but could receive up to $750,000 of assistance towards road repair, and construction.
The council requested a letter of recommendation from the two grant application agencies that Development Coordination and Code Enforcement Officer Thomas Lauer suggested. One company came with a $75,000 price tag while the other came with a $58,000 price for services. Lauer stated that the city has very good odds receiving a grant such as this and urged the council to move forward quickly.
The council tabled the item during the meeting but has since held a special meeting Nov. 21 to review and consider selection of applicants for the Texas Department of Agriculture- Community Development Block Grant for 2025-26 and to review and consider a resolution to formalize the selection of the applicant for the grant.
Also discussed was the implementation or establishment of exemptions for an ad valorem property tax. The City of Seven Points ad valorem taxes currently offer no exemptions for seniors, disabled or veteran residents which is now up for discussion.
The city referenced following another local city and their recent freeze and exemptions and opted to table the decision until they had all documents to approve this agenda item during the Thursday, Dec. 12 meeting.
