Mabank girls dominate Lady Yellowjackets in District tilt

MABANK–The Mabank Lady Panthers defeated the Kemp Lady Yellowjackets 82-22 in District 15-4A play Jan. 11 to move Mabank’s overall record to 22-5 and to 5-1 in District play, one game behind undefeated Canton.
Mabank started out with a 2-0 lead behind two Kalli Smith free throws. Mabank next was ahead 6-5, then Honey Aldridge added two free throws to give the Lady Panthers an 8-5 lead. After that, Aldridge was fouled again, making both free throws to extend the Lady Panther lead to 10-5. Next, Jayda Searcy sunk two more free throws for a 12-5 Mabank margin.
The Lady Panthers continued to dominate and took a 24-5 lead at the end of the first period, a 40-9 halftime advantage and were in front 59-17 after three periods.
In the fourth period, Presley Sims made a Mabank 3-pointer to give the Lady Panthers a 66-17 lead. Aldridge added a basket to make it 70-20, Mabank. Kendal Woods hit a jump shot to increase that advantage to 74-20. Mabank’s Makinley White had two free throws to make it 80-20 in favor of the Lady Panthers. As the game wound down, Mabank’s Smith traded a layup with Kemp’s Allie Pringle to account for the 82-22 final.
Aldridge led Mabank with 26 points, with 14 of those coming in the first period. Sims had 11 points for the Lady Panthers, all of which came in the fourth period. Woods had 10 Mabank points, Smith added 9 Lady Panther points, Bailey Litchfield and Searcy each had 6 points for Mabank, Jacey Jones totaled 5 Lady Panther points, Nina Sanchez added 4 points for Mabank, White had 3 Lady Panther points and Taylor Granger tallied 2 points for the Mabank cause.
For Kemp, Pringle led her team with 9 points (including two third-period 3-pointers), Emma Bailey added 8 Lady Yellowjacket points, Kim Mendez had a first-period Kemp 3-pointer and Makayla Miller totaled 2 points for the Lady Yellowjackets.
