Kaufman County thanks voters

KAUFMAN COUNTY—During the May 6 session of the Kaufman County Commissioners’ Court County Judge Jakie Allen extended his appreciation to the voters of Kaufman County for voting for the bond which grants the construction of a new juvenile detention center. 
Allen extended his appreciation to the juvenile detention probation department in advocating for the new center also noting that the construction and operation will be conservative. Representatives from the Juvenile Detention Probation office stated that they were appreciative of the voters and are hopeful they can offer the kids rehabilitation when they have the opportunity. 
Also discussed during the court were the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office financial reports for January through March. Kaufman County Sheriff Bryan Beavers explained to the commissioners that overall crime is down 28.9% although robberies were up due to two recent cases. Breaking and Entering crimes are at 34.3% and thefts are 31.9%. Beavers also communicated with the court that the office has been conducting intel meetings with surrounding agencies which has really helped all the departments in multiple ways. “I’m excited to say that law enforcement is communicating better than I’ve seen it in my whole career here,” stated Beavers. Commissioners approved the sheriff’s report unanimously. 
In other business, the court:
• Approved consent agenda.
• Accepted the Veterans Services quarterly report for the second quarter fiscal year 2025.
• Approved the appointment of the following residents to the Kaufman County Historical Commission for the 2025-26 term, Chair Carrie Woolverton, Rheanne Archer, Dottie Durrett, Jeff Baska, Kelsey Davis, Chuck Mohnkern, Kari Rough, Zahnd Schlensker. 
• Approved the final plat of Elysium Estates 
• Approved an ETJ Interlocal Agreement between Kaufman County and the City of Poetry. 
• Approved the deputation of Jazmin Ruiz with Precinct 2 Constable’s Office to fill a vacant position in Patrol Contract 193 Devonshire. 
• Approved Deputy Jazmin Ruiz with Precinct 2 Constable’s Office to fill a vacant position in Patrol Contract 193 Devonshire. 
• Approved a road use agreement and release for County Road (CR) 328 and CR 329 between Kaufman County and Ables Springs Solar, LLC. 
• Approved a letter to the Honorable Robert Nichols supporting House Bill 2198 designating a portion of State Highway 34 as the Jacob Candanoza Memorial Highway. 
• Approved claims for payment in the amount of $668,835.97.
