Betty “Nanny” Conway
Betty “Nanny” Conway passed away peacefully at her home May 22, 2025. She was born Feb. 2, 1931, in Quinton, Okla., to Charlie and Etta Weathers.
Her family traveled across the country and settled into Winnsboro where she graduated from Winnsboro High School in 1949. She moved to Fort Worth where she met and married James Conway in 1955.
She worked and retired from Square D Electrical after 40 years of dedicated service. She didn’t “retire” for long, as she worked as a bus monitor for the HEB ISD for five additional years.
Betty was a faithful member of Brown Trail Baptist Church while living in the Metroplex and then moved her church home to the First Baptist Church of Gun Barrel City. She always enjoyed her church family and fellowships.
Some of Betty’s favorite pastimes included garage sales, collecting cookbooks and cast-iron skillets – she had a very large collection of both to show for it. She loved all types of music, dancing and many musicals. The Macarena and “pick-‘em-up” were among some of her favorite dances and she never missed the opportunity to watch movies with her grandchildren and friends. She could light up a room with her positive energy and love for life and the Lord.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Bobby Jo and Charles Weathers, sisters Ella Mae Reid and Virginia Tapley, grandson Mike Cravens and her best friend Enice Walls.
She is survived by her daughter Joni Boles and husband Eddie, son Tony Conway and wife Sharon, sister Shirley Ballard and husband Marvin, grandchildren Kristi Lubriewski and husband Scott, Danielle Cooley and husband Justin and Madison Wolfe and husband Alex, great-grandchildren Landon and Logan Cooley, Ariel, Guy and Jaxson Cravens, and Cameryn, Austin and Caleb Lubniewski.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2025 at the First Baptist Church of Gun Barrel City with a luncheon to follow.
Donations in Betty’s memory can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
