SEVEN POINTS‑According to a Nov. 7 press release, Seven Points Mayor Keith Betts said he has placed  the  police department and dispatch on paid administrative leave because of an investigation of a Nov. 6 incident which he did not define.
The press release also said,“Due to this being an active investigation this is all the information that can be released at this time. As more information is obtained you will be notified.  If you have an emergency please call 9-1-1. Gun Barrel City as well as county has been notified and they will be answering calls until further notice.”
In another incident, Seven Points City Development Coordinator Thomas Lauer was arrested for a charge of official oppression on Nov. 5. The offense allegedly occurred July 27. Mayor Betts did not say whether the two incidents are related.  The charge is defined by state law as when a public servant  intentionally subjects someone to mistreatment or to arrest or other actions that he knows are unlawful, intentionally denies or impedes someone of their rights.
According to  jail records, the arrest warrant was issued by Henderson County Court at Law (HCCL). HCCL has two judges: Scott Williams and Nancy Perryman. The online records do not indicate which judge signed the warrant. Lauer was released on the same day with a $7,500 bond.
Also in Seven Points, Police Chief Raymond Wennerstrom resigned his position on Nov. 4. According to the unofficial minutes of the Oct. 28 Enchanted Oaks special Town Council meeting, that is posted on the Enchanted Oaks official city website, Wennerstrom has been hired as that town’s police chief with a conditional offer of employment.
