MABANK–The Mabank Lady Panthers had little trouble with the Community High Lady Braves Dec. 9, winning 75-29 to extend their win streak to three games.
Mabank opened with a 10-3 lead before the visitors from Nevada, Texas, got on the board with a 3-pointer halfway through the first period. Honey Aldridge answered that for Mabank by grabbing two consecutive offensive rebounds, putting the second grab into the hoop. Then, Kendal Woods and Aldridge thieved consecutive steals and dribbled in for hoops, extending the Lady Panther lead to 16-3 with 3:16 left in the opening period.
After the Collin County visitors called timeout, Mabank continued scoring when Aldridge got two more consecutive hoops, the second coming off a dish by freshman Harper Tijerina. Community got on the board again with a free throw to make it 20-4, but Mabank continued their offensive rampage when Aldrige drove for a hoop and Jaci Hines scored underneath, which accounted for the 24-4 Mabank advantage going into the second period. The Lady Panthers continued laying it on Community throughout the game and moved on to play at Sunnyvale Dec. 12 before starting District play hosting Athens Dec. 16.
In the nightcap of Dec. 9 action at Mabank High School, the Panther boys went to overtime tied 54-54 with Tyler HEAT before falling in that extra period 65-62. The varsity Panthers played next at the Wills Point Tournament, which started Dec. 11.
