EUSTACE–The Eustace Ladydogs took a 40-4 halftime lead against the Winona Lady Wildcats then kept the pedal to the metal in the second half to finish off a 62-9 victory in both teams’ District 15-3A opener.
Early on, a Eustace steal and assist to an open Lyla Horton made Winona call a timeout down 6-0. An Addisen Rummel finger roll followed by a Horton steal and same type hoop allowed Eustace to go up 10-2 late in the first period, which stretched to 17-2 entering the second period.
During that second period, Miranda Hersey popped a turnaround 3-pointer to extend the Ladydog lead to 22-2. Later, Hersey took an inbounds pass and scored underneath, then Rummel converted a steal into a basket, all of which pushed Eustace further aheed at 26-2. Paige Quigg banked in a 3-pointer off the back rim to make it 31-2, then Arrieanna Jones banked in another 3-pointer off the back glass to make it 31-2 in favor of Eustace.
Hersey made a fadeaway jumper to give her team a 40-2 advantage, after which Winona got on the board for the second time to trail by 40-4, which was the halftime score. In the second half, Eustace outscored Winona 29-5.
