Kerens athletes named chamber’s Students of the Year

KERENS–Kerens Area Chamber of Commerce announced its selections for its Students of the Year Dec. 18, 2025 with presentations of the two awards taking place at the chamber’s annual banquet Jan. 30 at Stockton Hall.
First is Kayla Gonzales, daughter of Mariano and Lisa Gonzales. Kayla is a well-rounded and outstanding student who represents Kerens High School with excellence. Through her involvement in Student Council, volleyball, track and softball, she consistently demonstrates leadership, dedication and a strong work ethic. She is dependable, hardworking and excels in everything she takes on.
In addition to her extracurricular achievements, Kayla is enrolled in dual-credit courses at Navarro College, showcasing her commitment to academic success and her bright future ahead. She is a positive role model who contributes greatly to both Kerens’ school and to the community.
The second Kerens Area Chamber of Commerce Student of the Year is Isaiah Carter, son of Adrian and Shirley Carter. Isaiah is an exceptional student who leads both on and off the field. He is actively involved in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, football, basketball and track, and is well known for being a mentor to younger students and a positive role model on campus. His character, leadership and integrity truly set him apart.
Academically, Isaiah excels in the classroom, currently is ranked No. 3 in his class and is enrolled in dual-credit courses at Navarro College, demonstrating his strong commitment to both excellence and future success.
