Panthers defeat ‘Jackets 76-40

KEMP–The Kemp Yellowjackets and Mabank Panthers resumed their rivalry Jan. 16 in Kemp for District play.
Luke Carter scored six of the Panthers’ first nine points as Mabank opened with the 9-0 lead. The Yellowjackets’ first basket went to Ettore Schiapparoli as Kemp got on the board at 9-2.
With Mabank up 17-7 with 1:43 left in the first quarter, Carter scored the next four points as the Panthers led 21-7 after the opening period.
Kaysen Stevenson’s field goal cut it to 21-9 before Carter Sims of Mabank scored four in a row to extend the Panther lead to 25-9 with 5:46 left until halftime.
At 27-14, Carter drained a three-pointer for the 30-14 score and then Stevenson made it 30-16 with his field goal.
With the score at 32-17, the Panthers went on an 11-0 run to lead 43-17 with 1:09 left in the half. Stevenson's basket made it 43-19 at the break.
Mabank outscored Kemp 19-7 in the third quarter to lead 62-26 and went on to defeat the Yellowjackets by the score of 76-40.
Both teams resumed District play Jan. 20 as Mabank traveled to Athens while Kemp hosted Van.
