MABANK-The Mabank Panthers' baseball team improved its District 15-4A record to 9-2 with an April 20 victory against the Canton Eagles, as the second-place Panthers celebrated Senior Night before what turned out to be their eighth-consecutive victory.
That win streak keeps the Panthers in second place within District play, as the total features three sets of two-game District-play sweeps of Brownsboro, Athens and Kemp. A 13-1 non-District victory at Jasper, played March 28, started the streak. The Panthers are scheduled to close out the regular season April 24 in a rematch with the Eagles in Canton.
Those Mabank baseball seniors include Matthew Ratley, Bryson Morris, Ryan Van Meter, Cayson Schrier, Gavin Foote, Gunnar McGilvra, Tucker Davis and Gavin Foote. It was Foote who scored the winning run for Mabank in the bottom of the ninth inning April 20, steaming around third base and evading the Canton catcher's tag as he slid to secure a win in his final home game. Leading to that, Foote reached first base on a one-out infield single and came around on a Canton misplay of Mabank sophomore Cullen McFaul's bunt.
