Lady Tigers complete sweep over Lady ’Jackets

KEMP–The Malakoff Lady Tigers picked up their second district win of the season over the Kemp Lady Yellowjackets Sept. 13 on the road.
The Lady Tigers wept the Lady ’Jackets in three straight sets by scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-16. 
Kemp opened a sizeable lead in the first set as they sat ahead of Malakoff 10-3. The Lady Tigers stormed back after a timeout to get within two as Kemp still led 13-11.
An 8-2 run by the Lady Tigers gave Malakoff their first lead of the night, 19-15. After a Kemp timeout, the Lady ’Jackets managed just two more points as the Lady Tigers took the win 25-17.
Malakoff started the second set with an ace from senior Addison Wittram and the Lady Tigers jumped out to a 4-1 lead.
Kemp battled back to make it a 7-5 game. A 6-2 run from Malakoff led to a Kemp timeout as the Lady Tigers led 13-7. 
A 7-3 run from the Lady Tigers doubled up Malakoff’s lead as they held a 20-10 advantage over Kemp.
The Lady ’Jackets added another six points but fell in the second set 25-16.
Malakoff had another strong start in the third set with a 3-0 run to open the set. Kemp battled back to tie the set 4-4 before a 4-0 Lady Tigers’ run put them ahead 8-4.
Kills from Avery Robinson and Rayonna Runnels pushed the Malakoff lead to 19-10. 
Down the stretch, a kill from Katelyn McCoy pushed Kemp to the brink. Aolanis Lopez added a late kill for the Lady ’Jackets to cut the deficit to 24-16 as Kemp had a late 4-0 run before Malakoff ended the set with a win, 25-16.
The loss to Malakoff on Tuesday night and a loss to Mildred Sept. 16 drops Kemp to 0-3 in district play and 5-9 overall this season.
The win over Kemp, coupled with another sweep of Blooming Grove Sept. 16 keeps Malakoff undefeated in district play at 3-0 and pushes their overall record to 18-10.
