Body

Gurley Moett Turner Mitchell was born Sept. 30, 1913 in Ben Wheeler and passed away peacefully in her sleep Nov. 2, 2022 in Eustace at the age of 109.
Gurley was a kind and giving person who was loved by all who met her. She is best known for her unequaled sense of humor, endless collection of jokes and her contagious laugh.
She enjoyed working at Southwestern Bell with her friends Ina Chaffin, Ruby Davis and Lois Ward, retiring after 30 years of service.
Gurley and her husband J.T. were strong in faith and were members of Lancaster Avenue Methodist Church and later Dallas Brethren Church in Oak Cliff.
In her later years she was a member of Payne Springs United Methodist Church. Gurley had a beautiful voice and loved singing in the choir at each church she attended.
Gurley was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, J.T. Mitchell and their beloved sons Billy and Aubrey Mitchell, father John Bevely Turner, mother Bertha Mae Plumlee Turner, brothers Otto, Albert, John, G.B. and Carl Turner and sisters Lillie Turner Horton and Mary Turner Whatley.
She is survived by grandsons Gary, Terry and Matthew Mitchell, great-granddaughters Heather and Autumn Mitchell, Molly Stanley and Makayla Mitchell and her three children Trenton and Trinity Paslay and Tynslee Mitchell.
Gurley was lovingly cared for by Cleta Close, Heather Mitchell and Sheila Curtis. The knowledgeable, loving staff of Caring Hearts Hospice of Mabank eased the burden of care and helped us find moments of joy in the midst of Gurley’s transition.
Funeral services were held at Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home in Mabank Nov. 12, 2022. Interment followed at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Dallas.
