Hilda Arlene Johnson, 82, of Gun Barrel City passed away June 2, 2024.
Arlene, known affectionately as “Meme,” was a loving and outgoing wife, mother, Meme and friend. She adored her family, especially her grandchildren. She was hardworking, strong and always ready to experience life to the fullest. Near the end, she encouraged her loved ones to “have fun...have a party.”
Arlene was born in Hartford, Conn., Oct. 8, 1941 to Leo Fred and Simone Lefebvre Beaulieu. She met Arland Terrance Johnson when he was stationed on the east coast while serving in the Navy. They were married in 1960 and later moved to Texas where they raised their family and celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Arlene’s strength and determination were evident in her career. She returned to school and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse, choosing to care for others as her husband, Arland, had been cared for after his accident. She retired from the VA Hospital of Dallas, where she proudly served for many years.
In her free time, Arlene enjoyed cooking for others, especially for parties, and was known for her crocheted blankets, ceramics and beautiful porcelain dolls.
She also had a passion for genealogy and studying her Canadian French heritage. Arlene actively participated in Bible studies, game days with church friends, Vacation Bible School and fundraisers for her church.
Arlene worshiped at the First Methodist Church of Mabank and the Presbyterian Church of Mabank.
Arlene will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Arlene was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
She is survived by her sons Arland Jr. and wife Vanessa, Leon and wife Suzan and Chancz and wife Annsley, grandchildren Brandy (Garry), Trea (Jasmine), Cara (Justin), Cody (Kaci), Lexie and Landry, great-grandchildren Trace, Sammy, Anelise, Griffin, Hudson, Pierce, Sawyer, Quinlee, Levi and Cambree, sister Jeanette Rosenberry and numerous nieces and nephews.
