Janelle Lewis Seabourne
Janelle Lewis Seabourne, fondly known as Moppy, was born Nov. 25, 1939 and died peacefully at Hospice Homeplace in Tyler Feb. 3, 2025, at the age of 85.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, teacher and friend and lived a life full of love for family and her church. She was a force of nature, inspiring those around her with her energy and vibrant spirit.
Janelle lived in Eustace her entire life. She was the oldest of seven children and was considered the Queen of the Family and kept that honor throughout her life. She was Eustace High School Drum Major in the 1950s which was the equivalent of “Royalty.”
Throughout her life, Janelle was a beloved second grade teacher at Bel Air and South Elementary in Athens where she retired after 35 years.
She shared her love for music by playing the piano at First Baptist Church of Mabank for over 50 years where she and Charles worshiped and taught Sunday School.
She was famous for her fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, keen domino skills and beautiful African Violets. Her favorite times were traveling with her family to their home on the White River in Arkansas.
Whether hosting gatherings or sharing stories, she created spaces and moments that will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Geraldine and Woodrow Lewis and brothers Henry Lewis and Macky Lewis.
Janelle leaves behind the love of her life of 64 years Charles Seabourne, daughters Jana Autry and husband Barry and Holly Reed and husband Kelvin, grandchildren Whitney Best and husband Blake, Brady Autry and wife Melanie, Hallye Coyle and husband David, Macy Cox and husband Daniel and Garrett Reed, great-grandchildren Charley Best, Bennett Autry and Janie Autry, who will always remember her warmth, wisdom and wit. Janelle is also survived by brothers Darrell Lewis and wife Karen, Dr. Harold Lewis, Donald Lewis and sister Judy Groom and husband Dale and sister-in-law Brenda Williams, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, students and friends who were touched by her kindness and generosity.
Funeral services are under the direction of Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.
Funeral services were held Feb. 8, 2025 at First Baptist Church of Mabank.
Honorary pallbearers were Don Pearson, John Hyde, Larry Teague, Robbie Teague, Jerry Allen, Howard Horton and Eddie Moseley.
She was laid to rest at Still Waters Memorial Gardens in Jacksonville in a private family ceremony.
In honoring Janelle, the family asks that you remember her love for music and sing to God with gratitude in your hearts.
