EUSTACE–The Eustace Bulldogs beat Kemp April 1 then continued their winning ways in baseball district play with a 7-4 victory over Rice April 6.
In the April 1 game, the Kemp Yellowjackets visited Eustace to take on the Bulldogs. After putting up runs in the middle innings, the Bulldogs were able to hold off a potential Yellowjacket rally, picking up a 6-3 win.
Kemp plated a run in the top of the first inning and led 1-0 early.
With the bases loaded and no outs, the Bulldogs got on the board in the bottom of the third with Hayden Dyer coming home on a wild pitch to tie it at 1-1. Jason Deluna’s RBI single scored Cannon Kilcrease and Kylin Smith scored Adan Maltos on his RBI single for Eustace to lead 3-1.
The top of the fifth inning saw Zach Dunn run home on a wild pitch as Kemp cut the score to 3-2.
In the bottom of the fifth, after plating a run to extend the lead to 4-2, Eustace added two more with Carter GoDair’s 2-run RBI double and led 6-2.
Kemp trimmed the lead to 6-3 when Ethan Vincent came home on a throwing error to third base by Kilcrease in the top half of the sixth.
In the top of the seventh, Cole Baty got on base with a leadoff single, and with one out, stole second base. Baty would reach third on a groundout with two outs. Cody Johnson walked and Vincent came to bat, but he popped out to end the game.
