MABANK–The Mabank Panthers suffered their first district loss to the Anna Coyotes at home Oct. 7.
After struggling in the first quarter, the Panthers never recovered as they fell 40-0 to the Coyotes.
The Coyotes opened the scoring in the first 58 seconds on a 37-yard touchdown run to take a 7-0 lead.
Anna added a long 68-yard touchdown run with just under eight minutes remaining in the first quarter to increase their lead to 13-0.
Mabank fumbled on their own five-yard line as Anna took over on first-and-goal. The Panthers came up with a huge stop on fourth-and-goal after a near interception by Case Holt in the end zone.
The Coyotes would go on to score 27 points over the final three quarters on their way to a 40-0 shutout victory.
The Panthers were led by Cody Chapman and JJ Flores as they ran for 58 and 56 yards respectively.
Mabank managed just 145 total yards of offense while Anna had over 400 yards of offense in the win.
The loss drops the Panthers to 3-3 overall on the season and 1-1 in district play.
Mabank will battle against Sulphur Springs (5-1, 1-0 district) at home Oct. 14.
