SCURRY–The Eustace Bulldogs’ varsity basketball teams both traveled to Scurry-Rosser Dec.19 for district matchups with the Lady Cats and Wildcats.
LADY BULLDOGS:
Scurry-Rosser raced out to a 13-0 lead to begin and Eustace got on the board, 13-2, thanks to Paige Quigg’s pair of free throws with 3:35 in the first quarter. With the 16-2 lead, Delaney Long’s three-pointer trimmed it 16-5. Baylen Bodiford’s three-pointer and Alyssa Harrison’s field goal made it 21-5. Baskets from Shyenne Powell and Allie Stegall made it 21-9 after the first.
The Lady Cats used a 7-0 run to extend their lead to 28-9 with four minutes until the break. After Stegall’s field goal for the 28-11 score, Lanie Taliaferro, Peyton Billings and Bodiford led with seven straight points to make it 35-11. Sarah Ross’ three-pointer trimmed it to 35-14 at halftime.
The third quarter saw the Lady Cats outscore the Lady Bulldogs, 10-9, and the score was 45-23 going into the fourth.
Ross’ three-pointer and field goal plus a basket by Katelyn Landwermeyer made it 45-30 with 5:30 to play. Scurry-Rosser would go on to defeat Eustace by the final score of 53-32.
BULLDOGS:
The Wildcats commanded the first quarter and ran out to a 27-0 lead. Rhett Dyer’s three-pointer made it 27-3 going into the second.
Scurry-Rosser continued their run and led 48-15 at the break. Landon Jenkins had seven of Eustace’s 12 points in the second quarter.
The Wildcats never looked back as they cruised to the 86-37 win over the Bulldogs.
Eustace is back in action Dec. 28 as both teams compete in the Latexo Tournament.
