Josiah Young (#16) runs with the ball in Kemp’s home game versus Groesbeck Oct. 6.

KEMP–The Kemp Yellowjackets welcomed the Groesbeck Goats to town Oct. 6 for a district matchup on the gridiron.
On Groesbeck’s opening drive, Jayden Freeman picked up an interception in the end zone for a touchback. However, on Kemp’s opening drive, they lost the ball on a fake punt on fourth down.
The Kemp defense recorded another turnover with a fumble recovery with 2:39 in the first quarter, but the Jackets would eventually punt.
With ten seconds, Trent Platt put Groesbeck on the board first with his 37-yard touchdown run for a 7-0 lead. With 7:19 until halftime, the Goats built the lead to 14-0 when they recovered a fumbled punt in Kemp’s own end zone.
Platt connected with Matthew Valentine inside the Yellowjacket 15-yard line and he eventually ran for his second touchdown to make it 21-0 with 3:19.
Huston Cromer found Freeman for a 37-yard catch into Goat territory. Later, with time running out, Cesar Lopez’s field goal attempt was no good and Kemp trailed 21-0 at halftime.
With 6:26 in the third quarter, Platt ran in on third-and-goal for his third touchdown and the 28-0 lead. Chris Cox ran for a rushing touchdown and the lead was 35-0 with 2:10.
Adreyan Ramirez ran for a 16-yard TD and the 42-0 lead early in the fourth quarter as Groesbeck never looked back in their 56-0 win over the Yellowjackets.
Kemp (1-6; 0-3) heads into their bye week before going to Fairfield Oct. 20.
