KERENS–The Kerens Lady Cats softball team defeated Cayuga 10-2 April 11 behind 15 strikeouts from pitcher Rylee Spivey, who also hit a 2-run home run in the first inning.
That makes seven consecutive victories for Kerens in District play, starting March 21 against Frankston and including two games each with LaPoynor, Wortham and now Cayuga (who Kerens had beaten 14-4 in Cayuga April 8).
Those scores were 7-4 at home against Frankston, 7-0 at LaPoynor March 25, 6-2 in the March 28 return game hosting LaPoynor, 8-6 March 31 against Wortham then 12-0 in Kerens during the second series game April 4 against Wortham.
In the first inning versus Cayuga April 11, Kerens took the lead on Spivey’s home run, which also scored Blair Blue, who had walked. In the third, Jayden Brumit hit a fielder’s choice, which scored two more Kerens runs and built the Lady Cat lead to 4-0.
After Cayuga scored a single run in the top of the fourth, Kerens tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the fourth and then answered Cayuga’s one run in the top of the sixth with two Lady Cat runs in the bottom of that inning.
