KERENS–The Kerens Lady ‘Cats volleyball team scored big victories over Athens and Buffalo (both by two sets to one) at the Palestine tournament Aug. 11-12, followed by an Aug. 18 win over Winona at the Eustace tournament. At Eustace, the Lady ‘Cats took the consolation trophy in the silver bracket, beating Oakwood (2-0) and Kaufman (2-1) Aug. 20.
Kerens also swept Rice, 3-0, at home Aug. 19. The Lady ‘Cats won the first set, 25-18, on a Madison Brumit ace. In the second set against Rice, an Olivia Holt kill pushed Kerens to a 24-17 lead. The Lady ‘Cats eventually finished off that second set, 25-17. A point based on a Rice double hit put Kerens over the top in the third set, 25-17.
Kerens also hosted its annual tournament Aug. 25 and 27. During the first day of action, the Lady ‘Cats toppled Overton (2-0) and Hubbard (2-1). Kerens is scheduled to start district play Oct. 8 at Frankston.
