Eustace-area women charged in alleged jail drug-drop plot

ATHENS–The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office said in a social media release March 15 that it learned of a plan the day before to bring drugs into the Henderson County jail in Athens via an eczema cream tube, leading to the arrest of two Eustace-area women.
The sheriff’s office said in the post that in the days leading up to March 14, Henderson County Narcotics Investigator Jude Bonner was investigating narcotics trafficking within Henderson County.

A July 31 Athens-area traffic stop leads to investigators recovering a large amount of suspected methamphetamine, marijuana, suspected cocaine, several suspected ecstasy pills, THC gummies and a large amount of U.S. currency, according to a release from the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff investigates abandoned child report

HENDERSON COUNTY–Henderson County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies responded along with Emergency Medical Services to a report that a child had been abandoned in the driveway of a home on State Highway 19 just outside Athens Oct. 29, according to a report on the HCSO social media.

Mother charged with Capital Murder

HENDERSON COUNTY–Athens resident Monica Figueroa was arrested March 13 in connection with the death of her four-year-old son Grayson Hurt, Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse said in a press release.
According to the release, Athens Police responded to an early morning call by the child’s grandmother, Mary Johnson saying that she was afraid her daughter had harmed the child. Police responded to a residence on Mitchell Street in the city, where they found the deceased male child inside the door, partially covered by a blanket.

Multiple agencies assist in search for missing Athens man

ATHENS–The search continues for a missing man from Athens. Rock Stanley, 75, is an experienced hiker who has made the hike on Mount Charleston in Las Vegas, Nev. for the past 30 years.  
Stanley, a retired U.S. Marine and high school coach, set out on his trek Aug. 23 and hasn’t been seen since. Red Rock Search and Rescue (RRSAR) began Aug. 28 with a boots-on-the-ground search followed by two air searches by the Civil Air Patrol.
