ENNIS–The Eustace Lady Bulldogs opened their 2023 postseason run as they went to Ennis High School on Oct. 30 to take on the West Trojans in the bi-district round.
West led the first set early at 4-1. With the score at 9-6, the Trojans used an 8-2 stretch to lead 17-8.
The Bulldogs got six of the next seven and they cut it to 18-14. At 21-16, West scored three of the next four for set point at 24-17. Eustace scored two more before West closed the first set with a 25-19 score.
In the second set, the Trojans got out to a 7-1 lead. Sheyenne Powell, Brylee Altman and Sadie Jo Long helped get four of the next five points to cut it to 8-5. However, West remained in control as they cruised down the stretch to win the second game, 25-10, courtesy of a 17-7 run.
In set three, the match was tied early at 2-2. With the Trojans leading 8-2, the Bulldogs cut it to 9-5. A 13-2 West run built the lead to 22-7. The Bulldogs made one last push with a 5-2 stretch and they cut it to 24-12 before the Trojans wrapped up the match, 25-12, to sweep the Bulldogs.
Eustace finishes the season as bi-district finalists with an overall record of 17-18 and a 9-5 mark in district.
