WAXAHACHIE–The Mabank Panthers tamed the Life Waxahachie Mustangs in a convincing victory Sept. 23 on the road.
The Panthers moved to even on the year with a 43-19 win over the Mustangs.
The Mustangs opened the scoring just over four minutes into the first quarter to take an early 7-0 lead.
The Panthers answered with a rushing touchdown just a few minutes later to cut the deficit to 7-6 after a failed two-point conversion.
After a low-scoring first quarter, the Mustangs’ defense added to the offense as they returned a fumble for a touchdown to increase their lead to 13-6.
A rushing touchdown just moments later from the Panthers, followed by a successful two-point conversion gave Mabank their first lead of the night, 14-13.
An interception midway through the second quarter for the Panthers led to a drive that ate up a lot of clock in the first half. The drive ended with a touchdown reception for Mabank to increase their lead to 21-13.
The Mustangs would respond with under a minute left in the first half as they trimmed the deficit to 21-19 entering halftime.
The Mustangs missed a potential go-ahead field goal in the opening five minutes of the third quarter to give Mabank possession on their own 20-yard line. The Panthers capped off an 80-yard drive with a rushing touchdown to bump their lead to 29-19.
The Panthers added two more rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter as they were dominant in the second half.
Mabank moves to 2-2 overall on the season as they wrap up their pre-district schedule with their homecoming contest against the Quinlan-Ford Panthers (2-2) Friday, Sept. 30.
