Aniyah Bivins of Malakoff goes in for a steal versus Grand Saline, one moment that helped her team secure a 44-41 victory.
MALAKOFF–The Malakoff Lady Tigers basketball team evened their District 15-3A record to 1-1 with a 44-41 win over the Grand Saline Lady Indians Dec. 19.
Down 39-38 with 3:26 remaining in the game, Aniyah Bivins was fouled and made her first free throw to tie the game, but the second errant free throw was rebounded by Demariya Singleton, who put the ball in the hoop to put Malakoff ahead 41-39.
Grand Saline then tied the game again, but with 1:22 left in the contest, Kyleigh Fisk made a free throw to put the Lady Tigers back ahead at 42-41. Then, with 22.31 seconds left on the clock, Dailynn Jackson was fouled in the front court and then added two more Malakoff free throws to extend the Lady Tiger lead to 44-41. Grand Saline had one more chance to tie the game with an inbounds pass on their end of the court, but the Lady Indians couldn’t get off a shot, allowing Malakoff to walk away with the win.
