CEDAR CREEK LAKE–As triple digit temperatures and zero chances of rain add fuel to the already burning fire of a drought, firefighters are seeing an increase in fast spreading wildfires. 
A wildfire that burned nearly 100 acres between Eustace and Athens July 6 called upon 12 departments, the Texas Forrest Service, Fire Marshal, Emergency Medical Services, Red Cross, Henderson County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) and Precincts 1, 2 and 4.

CEDAR CREEK LAKE–West Cedar Creek Municipal Utility District’s (WCCMUD) board voted July 5 to take a wait-and-see approach on a variance request by a homebuilder that they were told poured a foot of foundation concrete over a six-foot MUD easement.
WCCMUD General Manager Tony Ciardo said the homebuilder requested the variance to the district’s utility easement at 2001 Emma Dr. in Tool while workers were in the process of pouring the concrete. Ciardo refused to grant the variance and said he’d take it to the WCCMUD board.

The lake is located 15 miles west of the town of Athens between US Highway 175 and Texas Highway 274.

ALEXANDRIA,VA–The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) has named truck driver Shawna Lewis, from Gun Barrel City a Highway Angel for stopping to care for a fellow trucker experiencing a medical emergency while driving. Lewis works for Artur Express in Hazelwood, Mo.

MABANK–Mabank ISD Superintendent Brad Koskelin introduced Amanda Bolton as the new Intermediate School Principal at the June 27 Board meeting. Bolton comes highly recommended from Crandall ISD and attended the meeting with her husband Chance and young sons.

Kemp ISD seeks grants for school safety

KEMP–Kemp ISD Board of Trustees voted to apply for COPS grants to increase safety and security for students. These grants are made available through the U.S. Department of Justice programs under the STOP School Violence Act and require schools to partially match funds.
These grants were among the grants stated during the public hearing portion of the meeting which the board holds each year, informing the public that the district intends to seek grants.

Members of the DFW-North Texas “All Airborne” Chapter 82nd Airborne Division along with local supporters walk a 2.2 mile journey in honor of July fourth but also for the estimated 22 veterans, service members, law enforcement and first responders who commit suicide daily. The walks are lead by 82nd Airborne Division Chaplain Gabriel Kanawite.

Business goes swimmingly for Cedar Creek Pools

CEDAR CREEK LAKE–After three years in business locally, a new 7,200-square foot retail facility, which held its grand opening June 10, has allowed Cedar Creek Pools to give its customers more options to have fun in the water.
Cedar Creek Pools is owned by Shannon Wiley, who has been in pool construction since 1989. Wiley recalls a saying from the man who first hired him in the business. “Get your feet wet without getting in over your head. And I’m trying to continue with that motto,” he says.
