MARCH 5 ELECTION RESULTS

CEDAR CREEK LAKE—The March 5 primary election for state, district and county office results are as follows. Results are as of press time at 11:08 p.m., March 5.  
In the Henderson County Commissioner Precinct 1 race Wendy Kinabrew Spivey won with 1,534 votes against Brad Skiles and Mike McCabe with 999 and 262 votes respectively.
Jason Ramsey secured the Constable Precinct 2 position with 1,988 votes against Francisco Gomez who earned 305 votes. In the Precinct 4 Constable race Paul Ellzey won with 1,899 votes against Frank Serrato who earned 669 votes. 

Henderson, Kaufman counties agree on county line

HENDERSON/KAUFMAN COUNTY–Henderson County’s official Facebook page announced Dec. 1 that Henderson and Kaufman counties have reached an agreement in the dispute over where the boundary between those counties lies, specifically in an area between Kemp and Seven Points in a section known as “The Notch,” ending a squabble that Henderson County says goes back to the 1800s.

Henderson County terminates disaster declaration

HENDERSON COUNTY–Sept. 18, Henderson County Judge Wade McKinney terminated the local state of disaster for wildfires that has been in effect since Aug. 22, the county announced on social media.
Henderson County has experienced just two wildfires in the past seven days, and the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) has fallen substantially, the county continued. The KBDI is maintained by Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Texas A&M Forest Service and is used to determine fire potential.

Nov. 8 election results are in

CEDAR CREEK LAKE–The Nov. 8 election which decides area city council and school board trustee positions results are as follows. Results are as of press time at 10:05 p.m.
In the City of Tool election to elect a candidate for one - one year term John Brasfield won with 357 votes against Kathleen Donoghue who earned 307 votes. Three-two-year terms for Tool City Council were decided from four candidates. Candidates Greg Figueroa, Mark Holley and Incumbent Mike Dumont won those seats with 434, 275 and 304 votes respectively. Stephanie Love earned 235 votes.

County provides federal COVID funds to hospital

HENDERSON COUNTY–Commissioners’ Court of Henderson County voted Sept. 13 to approve giving $1.4 million of the county’s federal COVID relief funding to UT Health East Texas-Athens.
A portion of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds that the county received will go toward a Henderson County COVID-19 Public Health Expenditure Agreement and Memorandum of Understanding with the hospital.
County Grants Coordinator Jessica Brown said the agreement utilizes part of the county’s ARPA funding to assist UT Health with COVID-related medical expenses.

Governor issues disaster declaration for statewide flood response

Governor Greg Abbott signs a disaster declaration during a Dallas City Hall press conference. Counties included in the declaration are Camp, Culberson, Dallas, Duval, Ellis, El Paso, Henderson, Hopkins, Hudspeth, Kaufman, Kerr, Live Oak, Marion, Montague, Navarro, Pecos, Rains, Smith, Tarrant, Upshur, Van Zandt, Webb and Wood.

County lifts burn ban, disaster declaration

HENDERSON COUNTY–Commissioners’ Court of Henderson County approved lifting the drought-related disaster declaration Aug. 23, which the county has been under since late July.
In addition, according to the county’s official Facebook page, County Judge Wade McKinney followed that by directing County Fire Marshal Shane Renberg that McKinney would lift the countywide burn ban that has been in effect since June 21.
