SEVEN POINTS‑The City of Seven Points held its regular monthly meeting Aug. 27. Economic Development Corporation (EDC) director Kenneth Crutchfield approached the council with a grant for $30,000 for improvements on the Optimist Civic Center and Ball Park.
In a phone conversation with The Monitor, Crutchfield said, “The money is a grant between the EDC and the city of Seven Points for renovation to the Optimist Civic Center. During the council meeting Crutchfield explained to the council that, “The Economic Development Corporation has partnered with the Seven Points Beautification Committee. The city's going to do phase one and two of the Optimist Park, which is bringing the building up to ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) standards, redoing the air conditioner and redoing the lighting. We're still waiting on bids to redo the fencing and the concession stand.” 
Crutchfield said the grant will reimburse the city for labor performed by city employees, including installing new TVs, painting and re-flooring the building. He also confirmed that the work is in the first phase of a two-part project, the second phase will focus on the park behind the Library at Cedar Creek Lake.
Council Member Mary Wennerstrom moved to authorize the mayor to execute the reimbursement agreement with the EDC for improvements to the Optimist Civic Center, and Council Member LaJohnna Wells seconded the motion.
In addition to the Optimist Civic Center and park updates, the council voted to rename the area, approving the building as the Seven Points Civic Center and the adjacent park as Seven Points Ball Park.
In other business, the council:
• Heard the certified values as presented by the Chief Appraiser of Henderson County Appraisal district as 118,074,995.
• Took action to accept the submission of the estimated 2026 no new tax rate of 0.228482 per $100 taxable value.
• Approved a public hearing on the fiscal year budget 2026 and 2027 proposed budget on Sept. 14.
• Approved short term rental ordinance to go into effect Sept. 14.
