Henderson County extends burn ban 28 days

HENDERSON COUNTY–Henderson County Commissioners’ Court voted Sept. 3 to extend the burn ban for 28 days, to Oct. 1, before the ban issued Aug. 20 expired the day after Labor Day.
According to the court’s discussion, the Keetch-Byram Drought Index as of Sept. 2 averaged 657 across the county, with a reading of 525 in the eastern end and a mark of 720 in the western part. County Judge Wade McKinney said County Fire Marshal Shane Renberg recommended the burn ban continue.

Henderson County opposes applying biosolids, enacts burn ban

HENDERSON COUNTY–Henderson County Commissioners’ Court voted unanimously Aug. 20 to approve a resolution opposing applying biosolids in Henderson County.
Before the vote, citizen commenter Randy Robertson described it “as kind of a crusade because of how dangerous this stuff is and how it will impact all our lives.” Robertson added, “You will be surprised how many of your constituents are on board,” saying he “hope(s) the whole state of Texas does away with it.”

HENDERSON COUNTY–Henderson County Commissioners’ Court voted in a May 31 special session to extend by 30 days the local disaster declaration issued originally by County Judge Wade McKinney following severe weather that ripped through the southeastern part of the county May 23-24.

County approves road deal with energy storage facility

HENDERSON COUNTY—Henderson County Commissioners’ Court voted March 26 to approve a special road use indemnity agreement and permit for an energy storage facility north of Athens.
Precinct 3 Commissioner Chuck McHam explained that the request deals with Tanzanite Energy Storage LLC for County Roads 3718 and 3720, located in his precinct. McHam said County Road 3720 is the part of Cream Level Road just north of State Loop 7 in Athens and that the facility is to be located along County Road 3718.

County hears water grant presentation

HENDERSON COUNTY–Jan. 23, Henderson County Commissioners’ Court heard a Section 3 compliance presentation for a Texas Community Development Block Grant relating to Crescent Heights Water Supply Corp., which is finishing up a water project to expand its service in the area between Athens and Cross Roads.
