Kayaker perishes after capsizing on CCL

Payne Springs Fire Rescue (PSFR) documents the daytime search efforts for a 22-year-old kayaker who had capsized May 16 on Cedar Creek Lake near Peninsula Point Terrance on the western edge of Payne Springs, with that person’s body recovered by divers May 17, according to PSFR.

Fishermen survive capsize at CC lake, third found dead

A view of search efforts beginning late on the night of April 2 for a fisherman reported as having gone overboard into the waters of Cedar Creek Lake is provided by Payne Springs Fire Rescue, which said its volunteers were dispatched to a “boat incident” off the shore of Peninsula Point Terrace, a street west of Payne Springs. The body of that man, later identified as 42-year-old Sammy Matlock, of Mabank, was eventually recovered the evening of April 3 by Texas Game Wardens.

Duck hunters rescued after boat sinks

Gun Barrel City Fire Department’s Rescue 1 boat moves across the cold water of Cedar Creek Lake Jan. 10 in search of two duck hunters whose boat was reported by dispatchers as sinking. After an initial search north of the State Highway 334 bridges, two men were pulled from the reservoir by the Gun Barrel City firefighters on board, then taken to the hospital.

Third person drowns in Cedar Creek Lake

CEDAR CREEK LAKE-A 43-year-old man drowned while swimming in rough waters with his family June 22.
Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse said the incident took place around 5:45 p.m. near the Mantle Manors subdivision of Gun Barrel City. 
The man was swimming with his family when he went after a float but went under in rough water and drowned. 
Hillhouse stated that game wardens cleared the scene before the drownings of two girls later the same day. 
Authorities have not released the man’s name.

Procession of Lights remembers 9/11

The Sunday before Sept. 11 local first responders proceed through all municipalities around Cedar Creek Lake in honor of all 9/11 first responders. Participants in this year’s procession came from Gun Barrel City, Seven Points, Tool, Trinidad, Malakoff, Caney City, Log Cabin, Kemp, Southside, Eustace, Payne Springs and Mabank.

New Cedar Creek Lake pipeline explained

In late March, workers continue construction beside State Highway 31 where the Integrated Pipeline section from Lake Palestine will bore under the highway in west Malakoff. The pipeline also will go under a nearby railroad.
