The Mabank Panthers boys’ and girls’ varsity cross country teams excel at the 16-4A District meet in Canton Oct. 11. The boys’ team takes home the team championship with the girls finsihing second with both teams advancing to the Regionals Oct. 24 at Joe Pool Lake.

The Cross Roads bobcats varsity girls’ cross country team comes in first place and the boys’ team comes in second Oct. 12 in the District meet in LaPoynor. They both will be advancing to Regional meet Oct. 24. The junior high girls’ team places second overall and Lane Supak takes home first place for the JV boys’ team.

Panthers come up short, fall to Wildcats

MABANK–The Mabank Panthers suffered their second straight district loss to the Sulphur Springs Wildcats Oct. 14 at home.
Mabank failed to score in the second half of their contest Friday night as they dropped a 28-17 contest to Sulphur Springs.
The Wildcats opened the scoring before the Panthers answered with a rushing touchdown three minutes into the first quarter.
The Wildcats jumped back in front on a three-yard rushing touchdown as they took a 14-7 lead into the second quarter.

Cross Roads marching band takes second place

Cross Roads Marching Band placed second in Class 2A with a Division 1 Rating at the Teague Marching Invitational in Teague Saturday, Oct. 1. The bands' drum majors, Donna Stovall and Jeremy Fields, received Best Drum Majors in Class 2A. Cross Roads Marching Band advanced to finals, where they placed seventh out of 10. The band is currently perfecting their production of ‘Dreams of Persia’ for their UIL Marching competition in Mesquite Oct. 19.

Kerens comes up just short against Axtell

AXTELL–The Kerens Bobcats fell to the Axtell Longhorns in their district contest Sept. 30 on the road.
The Bobcats came up a score short as the Longhorns edged them 28-21 Friday night.
The loss drops Kerens to 1-5 overall on the season and 1-1 in district play as the Bobcats currently sit in fourth place in the 2A-1 Region II District 7 standings.
Cayuga (5-1), Italy (3-3) and Axtell (3-2) sit ahead of the Bobcats in the standings with Rio Vista, Itasca and Cross Roads making up the bottom three.
