The volunteers of Payne Springs Fire Rescue (PSFR) were alerted to assist Mabank Fire Department on a large grass fire off of FM 316 and FM 3080 in Mabank Nov. 27. PSFR Brush 1, Tanker 1 and Chief 1 responded to help assist with multiple area departments. As a result, the Whitton Volunteer Fire Department lost one of its trucks in the fire. No injuries were reported.

Kaufman grand jury indicts VZ commissioner

VAN ZANDT COUNTY–According to the Van Zandt County Jail website, Van Zandt County Pct. 1 Commissioner Mitchell James Curtis, 57, was arrested and booked into the Van Zandt County Jail at 8:49 a.m. Dec. 3.
Curtis, who was indicted by a Kaufman County Grand Jury, is charged with ‘Official Oppression’ and ‘Impersonating a Public Servant.’ The alleged offenses both occurred on June 7, according to the jail website.
Curtis is in his first term in office. He was sworn into office on Jan. 1 of this year.

Kaufman County experiences security breach

KAUFMAN COUNTY–Kaufman County discovered a security breach Oct. 20 affecting certain county systems, according to a Kaufman County press release. The county determined the breach began Oct. 17. The county has determined that some sensitive personal information was breached.
Only certain individuals were affected. Individuals can learn if they were impacted by visiting the county’s website at www.kaufmancounty.net and reviewing the Notice of Security Breach document. This document also contains security recommendations for affected individuals.
