HENDERSON COUNTY–There is help for students who are wanting to return to school through the workforce education program.
The Texas Reskilling Grant is still available for eligible TVCC students through the workforce education division.

Zoning change advances plans for Pier 334 Development

GUN BARREL CITY–At the April 26 meeting, residents of Gale Drive and Jeffery Circle came to speak during the public hearing to rezone lots 28 and 29 in the Lambs Retreat subdivision physically located at 102 Jeffery Circle. This rezone would change the two lots from Single Family Detached Residential District (R-4) to General Business District (B-2). Ten residents spoke against the action as well as the developer for the Pier 334 Development Steven Haynes of YNS Services. 

Quilters Guild hosts “Spirit of Texas” themed quilt show

One of many Texas themed quilts were displayed during the Gun Barrel City Quilters Guild show held April 29 and 30 at the CR Legacy Event Center. This quilt took home the award for First Place Home Machine. It is entitled Texas Cabins and was made and quilted by Carol Fogleman.

Eustace ISD announces lone finalist

Eustace ISD announces its lone finalist in the search for a superintendent to replace retiring Superintendent Dr. Coy Holcombe. Holcombe announced that he would be retiring from Eustace ISD in September 2021. The lone finalist is Dr. Julia McMains who is an assistant superintendent for Palacios ISD. McMains has 22 years of educational experience and was hired in 2019 by Palacios ISD. Previous to Palacios ISD she spent nine years with Mansfield ISD.

Missing Mabank man recovered from lake

CEDAR CREEK LAKE–After being reported missing, the body of 71-year-old Vary Sounthivong of Mabank was found in Cedar Creek Lake near Tom Finley Park. 
A concerned citizen made the call to law enforcement concerning Sounthivong’s disappearance around 8:30 a.m. April 20. After Gun Barrel City police responded to the call they located a pickup truck and fishing equipment at the park.

Vendors fill the field behind Cedar Creek Brewery for the annual Cedar Creek Lake Festival April 23. Attendees shopped for goods, enjoyed great food and drink from Cedar Creek Brewery and visited with pets up for adoption.
