Mabank Junior High School cheerleaders along with the Panther Mascot display school spirit with performances, cheers and pictures with students attending the Back to School Bash July 20. The Junior High School cheerleaders also worked the school spirit store selling t-shirts and sweatshirts during the event.

Kemp approves residential Rental Inspection Program

KEMP—Kemp will soon implement a Residential Rental Inspection Program effective September 1. The program is to ensure the homes people are renting within the city are safe and acceptable for the people living there. Mayor Christi Neal said this is to protect citizens and will not be a stringent inspection process, but there are some homes that have renters than shouldn’t have anyone living in them due to the homes’ condition. Council Member Daniel Camehl made the motion which was seconded by Council Member Greg Capehart, and passed unanimously.

Gun Barrel City seeks national anthem contestants

GUN BARREL CITY—Gun Barrel City is looking for a local star to sing the National Anthem before the fireworks during the annual July Fest concert held Saturday July 27. The annual fest will include Pat Green, Mike Ryan, Blaze of Glory- The Bon Jovi Experience and America’s Got Talent golden buzzer recipient Sky Elements Drones.

Fatal drowning in Hidden Hills Harbor

CEDAR CREEK LAKE—Payne Springs Fire Rescue (PSFR) volunteers were alerted to a drowning incident located in Hidden Hills Harbor at 8:34 p.m., July 4. 
According to PSFR it was reported that an approximately 40 year old male had gone under and had not resurfaced. 
PSFR units arrived and shortly after, several Texas Game Warden boats arrived. PSFR also requested assistance from Gun Barrel City Fire and Long Cove Fire. 
The boats on scene were able to use side scan sonars to locate the victim who was then recovered.
